Finding the Calm

In the midst of a busy day, we often reflect we want a calm or quiet day.  I believe what we are truly wanting is a peace.  Sometimes we believe we can only have peace if only there is no outer turmoil or confusion.   We complain our emotions are in a whirl; underneath is all we feel is like a broken vessel.  As we strive to desire and gain more and better things and positions, we get caught in the illusion that we can only be happy if we have that perfect job with the big paycheck.  In reality, this often only causes more stress and anxiety in our lives.

It is like being lost in a fog, losing our physical bearings.  I have had some lose their way having no meaning and purpose,

We have to see beyond the illusions and find the happiness in the life we now have, the job we have the privilege to still go to each day, the home we do possess even if it is not as nice as the one down the road, the husband we do have (even if you realize you did not marry the ideal husband, I don’t believe that exists anyway).   If we can see past the faults and imperfections of others and realize we may have the same or even worse habits, we can realize our peace does not have to be dependent on the more perfect life.

Psalm 29:11 (The Message)

11 God makes his people strong.
   God gives his people peace.

John 14:27 (The Message)

25-27“I’m telling you these things while I’m still living with you. The Friend, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send at my request, will make everything plain to you. He will remind you of all the things I have told you. I’m leaving you well and whole. That’s my parting gift to you. Peace. I don’t leave you the way you’re used to being left—feeling abandoned, bereft. So don’t be upset. Don’t be distraught.
